2.
3.
In addition to this process 2 other planning tools are used:

2.
highest priority=
1. developing functional criteria for the equipment (WHICH)
2. evaluating the specifications and effectiveness of the equipment (HOW MANY)
3. evaluating the manufacturers business practices (WHERE FROM)

PHASE 1 - develop functional criteria for the equipment:
PHASE 2 - eveluate specifications and effectiveness of the equipment
For RT equipment the following specification categories should be considered:
1.
2.
3.
Cardiovascular equipment
first priority=
1. first step:
2. second step:
3. third step:
No standards for RT equipment so one can determine this based on:
- recommendation:
PHASE 3 - evaluate manufacturers business practices
first step:
Equipment placement
- equipment that requires spotter:
- taller machines or pieces of equipment:
- dumbbell racks/weight trees:
- circuit weight training:
- stretching:
- cardiovascular machines with upright position/taller:
- treadmills/cardiovascular machines with outside moving parts exposed:
- all equipment should be placed:
There are two major functions of proper equipment spacing
1.
2.
The fitness area should provide between ... and ... square feet per piece of equipment on the floor
To effectively serve clients who use wheelchairs more than ... feet around the equipment may be needed
ADA requires that each piece of equipment have an adjacent clear floor space of at least ... by ... inches
