Prevention methods for the Black Death surrounded the Four Humour Theory, whereas the Miasma Theory was more prominent during the Great Plague. The Black Death saw prevention methods such as purging to rid of any potentially dangerous humours. Whereas the Great Plague was prevented by killing cats and dogs, showing a more developed understanding about the cause of the disease.
3) Explain one way in which approaches to the treatment of disease were different in the 13th and 17th centuries. - The start of the Renaissance period saw the use of natural treatments. For example, Thomas Sydenham found that by ingesting or rubbing tree bark on malaria rashes showed improved symptoms. However, the beginning of the medieval period was largely dominated by the theory of opposites, created by Claudius Galen. This theory suggested that if you had a cold, you should eat something hot and so on.
